Millions Of Unencrypted Instagram Passwords Exposed; Facebook Urges to Change Account Details

A security breach in the Instagram accounts has been seen and Facebook has quietly confirmed that the millions of unencrypted Instagram passwords are exposed. It has requested the users now to change the Instagram passwords and other account details. Facebook admitted that some users’ passwords which were being stored in plain text or somewhere else, are exposed to others. This was the case with tens of thousands of users.

Pedro Canahuati, vice-president of engineering, security, and privacy of Facebook, said that earlier, the estimate of password exposure was low but we got to know that millions of people were affected due to the security breach. He also said that their investigation has confirmed, passwords were not internally abused or improperly accessed.

The notification for the password change came quietly as an update to the month-old statement instead of a new notification. This show the issue is one month old and there was a hesitation to disclose it. Till now, no information came from Instagram about how much time these passwords remained unsecured and who accessed them. To heel the wound, Facebook has suggested changing the Instagram password and account details to every user.

Currently, there is one thing to do for every Instagram user, and that is to click on the Hamburger icon on the Instagram page. Select>Setting>Security>Password, to change the password. View more about how to change the username and password of an Instagram account.
